As our regular readers will know we’re currently developing a new performance for summer 2015. We are now recruiting for a core member of the creative team – the Scenographer/Visual Content Producer. The show, “Time”, will be a highly visual production, using digital projection techniques, acrobatics, dance, film, animations and imagery to explore one of humankind’s most complex questions: “What is Time?”
We are looking for someone who is comfortable working in different media (film, animation, static images, photographs) to create the visual material and the theatrical ‘world’ for the performance. The set will be a series of blank surfaces on scaffolding towers; the world, scenery and overall visual impact of the show will be created through lighting and projections and we expect the visual material (film and animation) to also be part of driving the narrative.
We are exploring the options for various projection technologies, including 3D mapping, rear projection and short throw projections for the show, as well as techniques for dynamically shifting the visuals based on the action of the performers.
We are specifically recruiting for someone who can create the visuals for this performance. However this role very much crosses over with lighting design and the more technical implementation of these visuals through the various projection techniques we’re exploring. Ideally the Scenographer would also fulfil one or both of these roles.
We have one week of R&D for the production, 6th-10th May in Newbury, and candidates must be available for that week. This is an intensive, residential creation week.
The fee for the R&D week will be £1200, assuming 5 days in the rehearsal room and an additional 2 days for content creation.
Subject to successful fundraising the fee for the remainder of the process will be £5000-£8000, depending on experience and the extent to which the candidate can take responsibility for the broader lighting and implementation aspects of the brief.
